:( I was like that with milk when I hit 25. I’ve come to embrace soy hot chocolate, but it just isn’t the same.
oh my god how did that happen? how do allergies just happen like that?
With that manner, that can actually be a result of overexposure. Sort of like too much of a good thing
I’m so sorry for you! I would HATE it if that happened with any of my favorite foods.
Same thing happened to me but with strawberries. Blehhh. Been reading archives thanks to refferal by GWS. I love your work. Simply amazing. =]
Happened with me and Milk when I came to college. Was eating icecream one day and all of a sudden I’m vomiting in the bathroom. Hello Lactose Intolerance. :(
hehe apperantly im only allergic to rain and i guess only certain kind (depending what kind of pollution is in the atmosphere at the time hehe) caze the case was registered only 4 times! at least i dont have to forgo something i love orgasmically… poor thing…
OMG THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME! Peanut butter every single day and then BAM! 23 years old, and BAD THINGS HAPPENED!
*sad face* I am right there with you in your lacking peanut hell, Erika. I know how you feel.
I guess I’m luckier than some. I never developed a peanut allergy but my immune system did. Now, whenever I eat peanut products, my face breaks out in flakey splotches, mostly around the eyebrows and nose. It’s annoying. I *LOVE* peanuts!
I became Lactose Intolerant in college…
I miss ice cream.
THANK YOU, SCIENTIFIC METHOD!
Sorry for your loss of comfortable-peanut-eating-ability. :(
Argh, this is happening to me, but with milk! I LOVE drinking milk, and cheese is SO delicious. And within the past year I’ve started feeling so ILL every time I drink/eat milk products, I actually had to go home from work once ’cause a glass of milk on my break made me superduper sick. And I’m 19, so I was so bewildered…can allergies just appear out of nowhere?
YES, this same thing happened to me and I’m 20. I don’t know WHY it happens, but I have heard that if you lessen your exposure to milk you can become allergic within 3-6 months.
How sad! Maybe you could try almond butter or cashew butter. Or Nutella.
Your body changes every 7 years or so. Allergies generally pop up in those times but sometimes a couple of years later. No, it is not due to overexposure (otherwise certain cultures would all have rice allergies!) nor is it due to underexposure (otherwise what would happen whenever you ate a new food???) It is simply ones immune system over reacting. Now, in these days they’ve got allergy injections to get the body used to outdoor stuff and I use sublingual drops for the food allergies. They aren’t covered by insurance in America but they’ve been used in Europe for over ten years with great results and so far… so good. I’m still allergic to most tree nuts but not nearly as much (I also had minor reactions to soy, wheat, oat and barely which is why I went on these drops… I was running out of food.) The “over all allergy load” went down and now I’m less allergic to things I wasn’t even on the drops for (which includes the tree nuts themselves.) Just sayin’. :-D
Happened to me when I was 21, I was suddenly allergic to tomatoes.
Oh man, I hope that never happens to me. I love peanut butter with a mad passion. It did happen to me with milk for a couple of years, but that went away – thankfully. I love soy, but I love Cold Stone too, lol.
Yes, you can develop allergies. I don’t know about what Rebekah says, but there’s plenty of allergenic non-food materials to watch out for. Perfumes and air fresheners give you asthma (those rearview mirror scent trees are particularly aggressive), and nickel plated items give you excemas. That’s about all I remember. >_>
It sounds like you ate it too much and your body just developed an allergic reaction to it. Next time: Don’t constantly eat just one thing.
