Who is this Visioluxus person in the comic? Just a totally fab photographer I’ve had the pleasure of working with a few times. She’s selling prints of my totally sweet ass wrapped in tentacles, if you’re into that kinda thing.
Eep! And I forgot to mention: Specimen7 has been one of my favorite places to pick up crazy little tentacle creature sculptures (which is where I got the one that appears in the third panel!)

Tentacles are super cool. I pretty much want to do a graphic novel that’s just page after page of Mignola-style tentacles, with whatever bare minimum of plot will get me from one tentacle to the next.
I totally have the same “fetish” for octopi, squids, and tentacles in general.
They have been cropping up in my artwork more and more of late.

Weird, I’ve been following visioluxus on deviant art for many many years. Small world huh.
I want a octopus tattoo on my shoulder sooo badly. You always manage to remind me of that. You maybe even inspired that… I loved that photo shoot and I adore the way you draw them. (omg, the one in the first panel is SO cool!)
I’m still undecided on octos. Arachnophobia kinda makes it hard for me to like anything with 8 appendages, but I really love the way you draw the tentacles all curling around themselves. I think that makes it easier to ignore the 8 “legs” aspect, cuz you make them look beautiful.
Holy Crap I am so glad it’s not just me. I love to collect all things cephalopod (does that make me a cephalophile?) which un-nerves my Cthulhu-fearing boyfriend to no end. <3

You’re definitely not alone! I’m in art school now and people in my classes have done tons of shit with octopi in them. They’re cool looking little dudes.

There was a longer video (about 2 minutes rather than 1) on the BBC website, but I don’t know if that’ll work in America (it might. Not sure if it runs on the iplayer system which doesn’t work in America) it’s easy enough to find if you want to try though :)

I too find octopuses fascinating. They are basically a big brain with prehensile appendages – just like us. They can learn lots of tricks (it’s very hard to keep them in a tank)… If they had a longer lifespan (even the biggers species don’t live longer than 4-5 years), they would already be making tools and building cities.

I’m right with you. I took a Oceanography class years ago & we took a couple fieldtrips to tidepools where there were octopuses (octopi? octopod?). I really wanted to touch one. It turns out they have beaks so I got bit, but it was still pretty cool.
I am exactly the same way! Except I haven’t posed in a nude tentacle photoshoot… yet.

Hey Erica, the National Zoo website has an octco-cam, a camera in the octopus tank. The first time I looked at it, I watched for a really long time as this red octopus twirled his tentacles around and around. So coool………..
I am very sad at the end of Dar. I resonate with so many of the things you’ve put in this comic that it seems like you’re opening my head and looking around in it. I am glad that it is a positive thing for you, but so sad. Selfish me!
Dude Octopi are awesome. I saw an article about some that collect coconut halves and use them as homes. They had a picture of a Octopus in his coconut home, peeking out between the halves. It was the cutest thing ever. EVER

To be honest, I theorise that women natrually perfer curvy shapes and men prefer straight (usually symmetrical) shapes. I personally draw a crap-load of spirals and swirls, or anything that flows.
The way you draw tentacles is truely amazing though; the level of perfect simple detail (i.e. it isn’t a lololcirclesonflabbytriangle nor a technical manual) and absolute symmetry is beautiful and sublime. If all that research has lead to your perfect renditions, then it is extremely well spent!
I read through the archives instead of studying today. Sad to see it ending. It was awesome watching your relationship progress. I’m still at the stage with my transboy where I don’t like the word “boyfriend.” Maybe I’ll grow out of it too. It’s complicated by the fact that I’m also trans and the more masculine of us. Hm.
I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but the way that you’re using fetish here… it’s exactly the same way that furries have a “Fetish”… I may be directing people to this comic to make that point!

No love for octopuses as animals? Way to objectify. ;) (No, but really, they’re super bright. They’re the only non-mammals with enough personality that aquarium staff consistently name them. They can recognize shapes and see the polarity of light with their awesome W shaped pupils, too. They’re also freaky devoted moms.)

As I dive I totally concur. They are fascinating and I have spent entire dives just watching a single creature. Cuttlefish are amazing too. If you love the little critters you might consider taking up diving.

My lil’ sis has an octopus tat on her thigh — only the artist put 9 legs on the thing because otherwise he “just couldn’t make it balance right.” The more tentacles the better, I guess.
